Choosing the Perfect Photo for Custom Pet Art
Share
Creating custom artwork of your pet is one of the most meaningful ways to celebrate their personality — but the final result is only as good as the photo you provide.
Whether you're ordering a custom pet mug, blanket, or poster, the quality of your uploaded image plays a big role in how detailed and lifelike your design will be.
Here’s how to choose the perfect photo of your furry friend to ensure your final piece is something you’ll cherish forever.
📸 1. Use Natural Light Whenever Possible
Photos taken outdoors or near a window during the day produce the best results. Natural light brings out the detail in your pet’s fur and eyes — and helps us capture their true personality.
Avoid: Flash photography, dark indoor lighting, or photos taken at night. These can flatten your pet's features or cause harsh shadows.
🐶 2. Get on Their Level
The best portraits come from photos taken at your pet’s eye level. Crouch down or place your pet on a raised surface to get a straight-on shot.
Why it matters: This perspective creates a more engaging and lifelike portrait — and lets us capture your pet’s full expression.
✨ 3. Focus on the Face
Make sure your pet's entire face is in frame — ideally with both ears and the full snout visible. If possible, have them looking at the camera with a neutral or happy expression.
Pro tip: Use treats, toys, or sounds to get your pet to look directly at the lens.
🧼 4. Choose a Clean, Uncluttered Background
A simple background helps your pet stand out and makes it easier for us to create a polished final design. If the background is messy, we’ll remove or replace it during the design process — but clean photos make that easier and faster.
Great: Blank walls, grass, sky, or plain bedding
Avoid: Busy rooms, messy floors, or photos with multiple pets (unless you’re ordering a group portrait)
❌ 5. Avoid Low-Resolution or Blurry Photos
Zoomed-in screenshots, filtered Instagram stories, or cropped images often don’t provide the quality we need to create sharp, clean artwork. Always upload the original image file if possible.
Tip: If the image looks pixelated on your phone, it won’t look good printed on a mug or blanket.
